Class differences

The paintings and artifacts at the Kanto Earthquake Memorial each told a different story. However, the painting that struck me most was the that clearly displayed the class differences at that time. Since most lower class people lived in the shitamachi and that was where the shaking was the worst, the lower class suffered more than the higher class. The painting showed the higher going on about their usual lives since they could afford to build new houses whereas the lower were still unable to have homes had to live by the river.
