Tokyo Fire Memorial

At the memorial there were so many remnants from the fire. These things ranged from worn and melted clocks, typewriters, coins, clothes, even bicycles. It was interesting to See these artifacts because it was unreal to me that these were once belongings of people; they used these things everyday. It took me some time to process that these remains were memories– they’re the things that these people took with them because they wanted to save them. It says about who they were and was what important for them.

One of the displays that I found particularly interesting was the American relief efforts for Japan. The American Red Cross in NY had news on the disaster and links for donations. I think this shows global unity and understanding for people regardless of their nationality. I think it’s a shame that it takes a natural disaster to bring people and countries together. Even with relief efforts and aid, the united states and Japan still had several issues after this.
